Replacing the stylus

A worn stylus reduces sound quality and may damage records. Replace it after approximately 1,000 hours of playback with a specified replacement stylus.

  • Use a stylus for Ortofon 2M Red / 2M Blue.
  • To use the stylus of a 2M Bronze or 2M Black, the entire cartridge must be replaced.
  • Also follow the instructions in the replacement stylus manual.

Removing the stylus

  1. Leave the stylus guard fitted.
  2. Detach the headshell from the tonearm.
  3. Hold the cartridge in one hand. With the thumb and forefinger of your other hand, hold the stylus's plastic housing and pull it out of the cartridge.

Installing a new stylus

  1. Carefully slide the replacement stylus into the cartridge from the front.
  2. Make sure the stylus is fully inserted into the cartridge.
  3. Refit the headshell to the tonearm.
