Connecting an audio system

The fitted Ortofon 2M Red is an MM cartridge. Therefore, set your audio system or phono preamplifier to MM, not MC.

Note

The connected audio system or amplifier must be switched off and the volume set low.

Before switching on the audio system and PLATINUM Signature, make sure all connections are correctly made and the correct preamplifier setting is selected. Otherwise, loud humming may occur and damage the audio system or speakers.

Making the RCA connection

Connect the PLATINUM Signature and your audio system using the supplied RCA cable. Use the audio system's phono MM input.

Connecting the ground wire

If your audio system has a built-in phono amplifier, it will usually have a ground terminal. Secure the ground wire to both devices.

  • The ground terminal on the PLATINUM Signature is not a protective earth connection.
  • Depending on the audio system, connecting the ground wire may have the opposite effect and cause humming. In this case, it does not need to be connected.
  • We recommend connecting the PLATINUM Signature to the ground terminal of a MAESTRO Quantum.
