For your safety

Intended use

The sonoro AMPLIFIER (SO-1500) is a network amplifier for audio playback through passive speakers with an impedance of 4–16 ohms. Intended use includes proper installation, commissioning and operation in compliance with all information in this manual. The device is intended exclusively for stationary use at a fixed location in dry, clean, low-dust indoor rooms. Operation at changing locations or under conditions requiring transport of the device is not intended and does not constitute intended use.

Use is prohibited in particular:

  • In high humidity or where condensation forms.
  • In the presence of aggressive or corrosive gases, vapours or solvents.
  • With large temperature fluctuations or direct sunlight.
  • In environments containing oil mist, grinding dust or cutting dust.
  • In atmospheres containing salt or chlorine.
  • In areas with strong electromagnetic interference.
  • In potentially explosive areas.

The permissible ambient temperature is +10 °C to +40 °C.

The manufacturer accepts no liability for damage resulting from use other than the intended use.

Use prohibited

  • If the device or any of its components are damaged.
  • After unauthorised modifications or alterations.
  • After improper repairs.
  • Under unsuitable ambient conditions.

Children and people with impaired abilities

  • Do not leave the device unattended when children are nearby.
  • People with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities may use the device only under supervision.
  • Packaging materials must not be used as toys. There is a risk of suffocation.
  • Keep batteries out of reach of children.

Electrical safety

The device runs on electricity, so there is always a risk of electric shock.

Caution: Always remove the mains plug from the socket by holding the plug body. Do not touch the metal contacts of the mains plug or the contacts of the appliance power connector. Residual charges may remain in connected devices after disconnection from the mains. Touching the contacts may then cause an electric shock.

  • Never touch the mains plug with wet hands.
  • When unplugging from the mains socket, always pull directly on the plug. Never pull on the cable, as this could damage it.
  • Ensure unobstructed access to the mains socket at all times so that the plug can be removed immediately in an emergency.
  • Make sure that the power cable is not kinked, trapped or damaged.
  • Route the power cable so that it does not create a trip hazard and cannot be reached by children.
  • Disconnect the device completely from the mains if you will not be using it for a long time.
  • Repairs must only be carried out by qualified personnel.

Alternating current Power supply: alternating current only

Power supply

The device is designed to operate on a 100–240 V AC power supply.

The maximum continuous power consumption is 500 W. Higher inrush currents may briefly occur when switching on.

  • Operate the device only if the voltage indicated on the rating plate matches the voltage of your socket.
  • An incorrect supply voltage can damage the device.
  • Use earthed sockets protected by a residual current device (RCD ≤ 30 mA).
  • Do not use a power inverter with this product.
  • We recommend using suitable surge protection.

Speaker connections

  • Use only suitable speakers (4–16 ohms).
  • The supplied banana plugs are designed exclusively for flexible stranded wires.
  • Do not use wire end ferrules in the supplied banana plugs.
  • Strip approx. 10 mm of insulation from the speaker cable and insert the stranded wire fully into the banana plug.
  • Tighten the banana plug by hand only.
  • Do not use tools to tighten the banana plugs.
  • Connecting cables with rigid conductors (e.g. NYY cables) is not permitted.
  • Connect speakers only when the device is switched off.
  • Make sure that no strands are exposed or touch metal parts.
  • Improper wiring can cause short circuits, a fire hazard or damage to the device.
  • Keep banana plugs out of reach of children.

Cable cross-section

  • For cable lengths up to 10 m, we recommend speaker cables with a cross-section of at least 2.5 mm².
  • For longer cables, we recommend speaker cables with a cross-section of 4 mm² or 6 mm².
  • Cable cross-sections that are too small can cause power losses, impaired sound quality, instability, overheating or a fire hazard.

Routing speaker cables

  • Wherever possible, route speaker cables separately from live power cables.
  • Avoid routing cables parallel to mains cables.
  • Route speaker cables as far away as possible from sources of electromagnetic interference.
  • Avoid crossings with other cables wherever possible.
  • Do not route speaker cables over sharp edges.
  • Route speaker cables so that no tensile loads act on the connections.
  • Ensure that speaker cables cannot be confused with other cables.
  • Do not route speaker cables near heat sources, such as recessed ceiling spotlights.
  • Route speaker cables only in dry conditions and with sufficient clearance from moisture sources or potential leaks.
  • For routing outdoors or in damp areas, use suitable, approved conduits.
  • Ensure that speaker cables do not lie in standing water or come into direct contact with soil.
  • Speaker cables routed under plaster must be installed in suitable, approved conduits.

Installation recommendations

The following recommendations are intended for installers carrying out a permanent installation.

  • To prevent audio signal interference, we recommend operating the device on a separate circuit wherever possible.
  • For a permanent installation, we recommend shielded speaker cables with flexible conductors.

Batteries

Keep away from children

WARNING!

KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

  • Do not swallow the battery. Chemical burn hazard.
  • The remote control uses a CR2032 battery.
  • Always keep new and used batteries away from infants and children.
  • If the battery compartment does not close securely, stop using the remote control.
  • Seek medical attention immediately if you think a battery has been swallowed.
  • Never attempt to recharge, open or heat batteries.
  • Do not damage or deform batteries.
  • Remove the batteries if the device will not be used for a long time.
  • Follow the applicable regulations for battery disposal.

Placement, ventilation and overheating protection

Sufficient ventilation is required for safe operation. The device must not be placed in enclosed built-in units, wall recesses or unventilated cupboards.

  • Place the device only on a stable surface capable of supporting its weight.
  • Protect the device from strong mechanical shocks.
  • Leave sufficient space between the rear of the device and the wall to ensure adequate ventilation.
  • Ventilation openings must never be covered.
  • Do not place the device directly next to radiators, storage heaters, stoves or other heat sources.
  • Do not operate the device in closed or unventilated furniture.
  • Do not place objects filled with liquid on the device.
  • The permissible ambient temperature is +10 °C to +40 °C.

Fan and overheating protection

The device has a temperature-controlled fan that switches on automatically when required.

  • The fan speed is automatically controlled in several stages.
  • Ensure sufficient air circulation around the fan at all times.
  • If heat dissipation is insufficient, the device automatically reduces the power amplifier output to prevent damage to the device.

Transport / shipping

  • Improper transport or shipping can damage the device’s surface.
  • When travelling in a vehicle, stow the device so that it does not endanger anyone.
  • If possible, pack the device in its original packaging.

Disposal at the end of service life
